I'm not going to lie, family sessions to me, can easily be the hardest to photograph. But the Shockley family was a joy to work with! Maybe it was because I didn't try to get everyone to look at the camera. With small children that is almost impossible to accomplish. I let them interact with each other and let Coleson and Griffen just be kids. And you know what? It worked! The pictures are certainly more genuine and natural. And to me this is the embodiment of a normal family. It doesn't hurt that we were at Walter Jones Historic Park which was such a beautiful shaded park with lot of rustic, natural elements. These images are what I strive for every family session to end up with. I'm in love with these pictures. And I'm so glad that a fellow Navy family was able to get their family portraits in before Wayne deployed the following week. Being a Navy wife I know how tough deployments are. These pictures will be a great reminder to all of them that this is why we serve. To protect the family units all over America. And when that deployment is over, they will be together again.
